Something churned in the pit of her stomach, exchanging fear for inexplicable ire. Her frightful demeanor faded to that of aggression. Her pupils transformed into serpentine slits, giving her the appearance of a hostile rogue. “All right,” she mewed, voice grim. “Show yourself!” Hackles raised, she instinctively dropped into a battle crouch, thin-striped tail swaying back and forth just whisker-lengths off the soil underpaw.
